Describe Users/DrewEngman here.
Drew Engman & Co. here. I'm primarily a California section D hiker, who has done the first part of Section E as well. I live about 6 miles due north of Wrightwood, in Pinon Hills CA 92372. We do many other (non-PCT) hikes all around our area.
I have been hiking around the San Gabriel mountains for most of my life. My wife and I started adding parts of the PCT in section D and E one or 2 hikes per week a couple years ago (early 2006). We are a little slow, but have purpose, perseverance, and patience. When hiking in altitude (7,000 to 11,000) with a fully loaded pack we usually make only an average of 15 miles per day. Flat out we do 20 in about 7 or 8 hours. We could do more if we were walking from sunrise to sundown.
Our next goal is to start the beginning of section D and hike through all of E. I get most summers off as a special eduction teacher, from the end of May to the beginning of August every year, so we should have time.
In the next few years I want to hike from the Mexican border through to the Oregon border. Within a few years of that, a through hike from Mexico to Canada, God willing (and my feet hold up).
All the PCT through hikers inspire me to keep my "hiking legs" ready, and my equipment in good shape. Thank you.
Desert Man Drew, the new Hiking Viking.
P.S. My 98 year old uncle Charlie Engman was president of the Wrightwood hikers club, and led many difficult hikes through the San Gabriels for 35 years (ca. 1965-2000). He was the original Hiking Viking, but has now retired. I hope I hike into my 90's as well!
