There are many different types of insurance that hikers may wish to have on the trail. It's a very individual thing. Some will hike with none, others with travel insurance, others with life or health, some with all.

An important consideration with buying traveler's insurance is that you'll actually be covered while hiking on the PCT. Since most long distance hikers are American, and some policies only cover you abroad, many travel insurance policies won't work.
